We researched the start of a variety of horror films such as The Grudge (2004) and Severance (2006) and noticed a set pattern in the way they order their titles. We made note of this:
Distribution Company Production Company The Title Actors Involved Casting Director(s) Music Composer(s) Hair and Make up Costume Designer Editor Production Designer Director of Photography Line Manager Co Producer(s) Executive Producer(s) Producer Story By/Written By/Screenplay By Director This exact order will be how we structure our titles in our opening title sequence. History of Horror Titles
The titles of horrors were revolutionised by graphic designer Saul Bass. Bass worked on making innovative designs for title sequences and managed to make a big name for himself and was able to make opening title sequences for big films like Psycho and The Man with the Golden Arm. He was also able to work with the likes of Alfred Hitchcock. He focused on a style of kinetic typography which was the way he mixed motion with text to create intricate images to create emotions within the audience about the film they're about to watch. |
