What Is A Prop?
A property, commonly shortened to prop (plural: props), is an object used on stage or on screen by actors during a performance or screen production. In practical terms, a prop is considered to be anything movable or portable on a stage or a set, distinct from the actors, scenery, costumes and electrical equipment. Consumable food items appearing in the production are also considered properties. - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theatrical_property
Why Is The Use Of Props Important?
The use of props is an important element of any filming production. It says so much about the scene, a character and the mood set.
Camera and Tripod - We used the tripod and camera to film the majority of our clips within our OTS. This allowed us to steadily film clips without the unwanted movement which would be caused by not using the tripod. Having the clips filmed steadily makes the OTS look more professional and well produced. However at times we did remove the tripod from the camera and film some clips free hand purely because it creates a stronger tension within the scene. Hand held camera shots were effective for the genre of our film and for making the zombie element more fearful.
Make Up - The make up was important for our genre and zombie sub genre of OTS because our cast needed to be covered in fake blood and look washed out to make them resemble traditional zombies. We used lots of pale make up to create the illusion of zombie skin,we used fake blood and was to make zombie wounds and we used darker colours to make scary eyes and bruises.
